Description:
Finite element modeling and analysis tools have been used extensively for the design of pavement infrastructures. In this paper, a three-dimensional finite element model of pervious concrete pavement is presented. Several special features were included in modeling the pervious concrete pavement, including friction between the layers of the pavement system, finite-size slabs of variable dimensions, linear elastic joint behavior, and different boundary conditions. Also considered are different loading applications i.e. 18-kip (80-kN) single axle dual wheel loading and 36-kip (160-kN) tandem axle loading at the corner and edge of the pavement. Critical flexural and compressive stresses, and deflective responses of the pervious pavement systems from these analyses are reported. The flexural and compressive stresses are compared against a field application of pervious concrete pavement. The finite element software package ADINA was used in the analysis of the pervious concrete pavement system.
